My family boasts several champion holiday decorators. You know the kind: four yards of pretty ribbon, winter-themed dishes, something silver and tons of lights and, voila, their abode looks like a cover story in House Beautiful.
I didn’t get those genes. Lately, I’ve come to rely on a candle with Sugar Cookie or Snowy Spruce scent to signal “holidays” at my house. I live vicariously.
That’s why I especially love this issue of MONROE magazine. We are featuring more homes than ever and it’s fun to see how it’s done when it’s done with style and panache.
Our cover photo sets the tone with a traditional winter scene – red against pure white snow, simple wreaths in the windows and on the door. The building is the Century House, a historic home being preserved and decorated with tender loving care by volunteers in Bedford Township.
Also in this issue, we meet Chuck Boudrie and see what a professional designer can do with garland, nine-foot trees and poinsettias. According to Chuck, “It’s all in the details.”
Mary Jo Stoyanovich also invites us in for a peek at how she transforms her home room by room for the holidays. Mary Jo said she tries to add the kind of love for family and tradition that her grandmother and great-grandmother provided her.
I hope you enjoy the ideas found among these pages as the holidays approach at your house, too. I’m feeling inspired myself!
